Sailing with Earth is toying with shoreline, dodging underwater topography, and always coming back home. With land afar, and dangers below, our instinct is to value crewmates and grow our sailing skills. Absence of Earth has made the heart grow fonder, making our future more likely.

Sailing with Air uses the ever-varying wind to navigate. This requires strategic adjustments of sails and helm, informed by birds, water texture, and head/neck/face skin sensations. Sailors develop an intimacy with the caressing wind. When Air is such a friend, it is harder to pollute.

Water is both necessary and perilous to human life. When facing the fear side of this duality, our relationship with Water can deepen, diluting our propensity to pollute. We damage what we fear, what we “other”, and we cannot afford a future where Water is so damaged it deters life. Sailing makes a friend out of anemone.

Fire can be literal as in cooking or auxilliary combustion engines or the energy of electrical systems, or Fire can be more figurative as in danger or that which can hurt us. Either way, entering into smart, safe relationship with Fire is empowering. Sailing is dangerous, and safe sailing kindles our Fire wisdom.
